Science Question of the Day

A 100 Kg man is holding a 25 Kg mass at 3 M above the ground. What is the potential energy of the mass? If the man, and the mass were catapulted at a speed of 15 m/s, what would be the kinetic energy of the man/mass combo?

PE = mgh
g = acceleration due to gravity 9.8 m/s2 (squared)
KE = 1/2(mv2) you can't do superscript on Blogger! (mass x velocity squared)

Give the answer in the comments

PE= (25Kg)(9.8/Ssq )(3M)

KE=1/2(125Kg)(15M/s)sq

KE= 1/2 [m(v)squared]
m=?

PE= mgh
m= meter?
h= Hieght?

g= acceleration due to gravity 9.8m/s2
m= meters?
s= seconds?
and if these are meters then how come they are not capitalized? I am confused between the mass and the meters.

Answer:
GPE = 25 x 3 x 9.8 = 735 J

KE = (125 x 225)/2 = 14062.5 J

Thanks for playing. Yes, I know I am a dork!
